A Writer’s Notes #4

Last week we lost the poet and author Maya Angelou at age 86. She is best known for the autobiography I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS, living up to her beliefs that “If you have a song to sing, who are you not to open your mouth and sing to the world?” And that “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you.” As a footnote, the first line of I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS reads, “What you looking at me for. I didn’t come to stay.” None of us do, but certainly we were all blessed by Dr. Angelou’s visit.
